Here is another shot of the desk with a better view of the map case and pencil box.  The map case is a replica of one my dad had when I was a kid.  His originally had olive colored leather over the brass (it was from the WWII era) but after it rotted off, I polished up the brass and liked it better that way.  The cap is copper and screws onto the case.  The threads on the case were a bit of a challenge but it is neat that the cap really screws on.  The pencil box actually has little wood pencils and technical pencils in it.  The pencils and the tiny hinges took longer to make than the entire desk (and almost drove me crazy...)
